Does anyone out there use Edu 2.0, the free VLE? It seems just too good to be true to me. An impressive host of features, and all provided and hosted ad-free at no cost? The VLE for the Academy has not yet been agreed, and there seems to be a lot of politics and LA self-importance getting in the way of progress. I am inclined to go the Moodle route, and we have a potential Moodle manager already on staff, but we would need to start with a finished product and then tailor it to meet our particular needs, and I was looking for one such Moodle when I stumbled upon Edu 2.0. It must be worth taking a look at at least, I suppose, but I would be grateful to hear from someone who is already using it.
It's just three weeks away now from the wonderful E2BN Annual Conference, and I am busy putting the finishing touches to my workshop, to be delivered on both days, on Cloud Computing in the Classroom. It will, of course, feature my netbook PC and a load of applications which I have decribed on this blog, and I'm looking forward to it immensely.
This time last year (ish) I was invited to speak at a conference in Iceland, but regrettably had to decline because I did not think it appropriate to miss days away from work just a few weeks into our Academy status. What self-sacrifice! I am so hoping they might ask again this year - I have the Principal's full support in taking the time off for it this year! My fingers are crossed!

Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThis is Graham Glass, founder of EDU 2.0. I think you'll find the free version way nicer than Moodle, both from a usability and features perspective. We also have a *ton* of cool new features coming out over the rest of the year. You can export virtually all your data whenever you like if you're worried about lock-in.
There are premium plans for schools who want all the trimmings, but most are very happy with the free version. We get a lot of people moving from Moodle to EDU 2.0, which now has 160,000+ users and 8,000+ schools (doubling every 6 months on average).
We also offer "EDU 2.0 for Business", a commercial version hosted at http://www.edu20.com.
Cheers,
Graham (graham at edu20.org)
