I cannot resist trying out software for painting and drawing - especially if it's free. I am not a painter, but am fascinated with the dozens of applications I have used over the years which help inadequate painters and drawers like myself to produce something which is only half bad, and better than I could do with traditional brushes and pens. So, I am particularly impressed by these two applications.
Harmony is a web-based program, very simple, but hugely intriguing. It only has eleven tools, but the results which can be achieved can be amazing. Mine, below, took only a few minutes.
The other, a free download installed on your computer, is MyPaint. This is just a tad more traditional than Harmony, but knocks the like of MSPaint into insignificance.
Its beauty is the amazing selection of brushes it has - it must run to hundreds, with a simple facility to modify existing brushes, or to create your own.
A quick dabble by a non-artist...
Kids love these, and they both have great potential in schools. AND they can use them at home at no cost - that has to be a bonus.
